Roundabouts in Turks and Caicos

CORE RULES

Driving Direction
• Drive on the left side of the road.
• Travel around roundabouts in a clockwise direction.
Yield to traffic coming from the right and to vehicles already on the roundabout.

Right of Way
• Vehicles already on the roundabout always have priority.
• You must wait for a safe gap before entering.

Exits and Counting
• Each road leading off the roundabout is considered an exit.
• Count exits clockwise from your entry point.

Signaling
Because a roundabout is treated as a series of connecting roads:
Signal right when taking an exit past halfway around (past 12 o’clock).
Signal left when taking the first exit (left turn).
No signal on entry when going straight, but signal left before exiting.

LANE GUIDE (Two-Lane Roundabouts)

First Exit (Left)
• Use left lane
• Signal left
• Stay left and exit

Straight Ahead
• Use right lane (per the local guidance provided)
• No signal entering
• Stay close to roundabout
• Signal left before exit

Right / Beyond Halfway
• Use right lane
• Signal right on approach
• Stay close to the center
• Spiral outward
• Signal left before exit

General Rule of Thumb
• Lane 1 → Exit 1
• Lane 2 → Exit 2

Large Vehicle Exception
• Large trucks/HGVs/LGVs may use wider or different lane positioning for safety.
• Give them extra space.

Crossroads Note
• At minor roads, yield to traffic from the right.
• Major roads have priority.
• Road signs and thicker/thinner map lines indicate major vs. minor roads.

Practical Safety Tip

If unsure:
• Slow down
• Observe road markings/signs
• Yield to the right
• Never cut across larger vehicles

Some of the lane guidance here (especially “straight ahead from the right lane”) may differ from roundabout conventions in other left-driving jurisdictions, so local road markings and posted signs should always take priority.
